The
family is regarded as the first institution a woman/man is exposed to before
the society comes into play. Though not regarded or known as the largest
institution of man but the family is undoubtedly the most important of all
institution, as a failure in the family can metamorphose to a failure in all
other institutions, taking allusion from the theory of social functionalism. I
see many vices done by many lads and I wonder, what happened to their family
and even the society. The same way I see many lads do something extraordinary
in the positive note and I begin to praise the family he or she came out from,
knowing fully well that without the family upbringing, the person in question
will not had achieved what he/she thus achieved. The social change we in the
‘other side’ of the tunnel, are seeing the world consume is so alarming and
disturbing, that we cannot just sit down there and do nothing. For instance,
for me it appears that the apex of terrorism and social violence and vices we
experience in most part of the world is as a result of the collapse of the
family as the first institution, then the religious, peer groups, at el. Also,
I personally think that the human being as a rational person has reached its
peak of evolutionism and rationalism, that he is heading downward towards its
original nature; the Hobbesian nature that is nasty, solitary and short, due to
the economics law of diminishing return.
Do we really think we
have out-grown that nature? Well, the best way to know is to look at the
features of the Hobbesian nature and compare it with this New World age, I will
attempt at giving few. Heavily armed nations and empires remained in a
Hobbesian “posture of war,” and Classical and medieval ideals of world order
had long been discarded. We still see nations jostling to possess one of the
biggest weapons of all time, the nuclear power. Also, all institutions have
been abused. The world is tainted, money is adulterated, the pulpit is
basterdised, and the gun does not protect us but the criminals. Fear belongs to
the confident, and confidence to the harlot; that is the present stage of
things in the world…
